Poetry is something I fell in love with at a young age because of my English teachers throughout school. I know certain types of poetry well because of class assignments and projects. I can easily read it with expression or write poetry well because of class assignments and projects. I can easily read it with expression or write poetry in rhythm. Mrs. Carr, my sixth grade English teacher persuaded me to actually read literature by poets like Robert Frost and E.E. Cummings. Cummings is now my favorite poet because of the lack of structure that comes with his expression of ideas and the strong release of emotions in whatever he writes. I can write poetry well when it involves free-writing, end rhyme and a syllable count.
Talents that are learned can never be fully understood. There are always things we can still learn or discover that enhance our performance. My knowledge of poetry is a novice but I believe my skill is exemplary. I've written hundreds of poems within the course of 3 years simply because poetry interested me at a young age. I pursued it because of a school and just my regular sixth grade teacher. She showed me what my passion and that words are more than just thoughts, it's a stairway into your soul when you write and I strongly believe that. I can demonstrate the use of end-rhymes, word count and a free writing strategy. I enjoy reading poetry as well as learning the history of it and a poet's background. Every talent that is learned, takes time to master and motivation to pursue it. Poetry is something I know well and plan to improve it through the course of my lifetime. I learned the basics in my early years of middle school and plan to promote my writings to the world someday because of one teacher that pushed me to learn something I liked.
